News is weird

Two items from the news this week that stood out:

  • Apparently, Maxim magazine saw fit to use the semblence of Mohandas Gandhi in an attempt at humorously (one assumes) depicting an exercise workout centered on beating someone up. Express India reports (with reproductions of an offending Maxim diagram) that Indians didn't appreciate it. Maxim? Offensive? How about that.
  • Cambodia and Thailand have plunged into national conflict over remarks a television actress says she didn't actually make — but that she says wre made by a TV character she played two years ago.

Update: Maxim apologized; and Slate offers a look back at the events in Cambodia and Thailand.
