On decadent wastes of water for one's own convenience

Items that, when washing, make one wish one had an automatic dishwasher:

  • Dishes

Items that, when washing, really make one wish one had an automatic dishwasher:

  • Large quantities of silverware
  • Strainers
  • Whisks
  • Cheap serrated knives
  • Those really tall, narrow glasses you can't ever drink the last drops from without hurting your nose or breaking your neck, and in which those last drops inevitably dry, but the bottoms of which no adult human hand can possibly reach with a sponge
  • Garlic presses
  • Cheese graters
  • Especially cheese graters

Reasons one might be glad one's new apartment — which has a huge kitchen, and the rent for which includes hot water — doesn't have an automatic dishwasher:
