Who'd 'a thunk?
First Lady Laura Bush surprisingly enlightened, New York Times reports

Soft-spoken she is, which is typical Texan. But, which is also typical Texan, she's got a strong gut. After all, she reigned-in her coke-n-dope-jack_d husband, no small campaign given his reputation as a partier (i'll ignore the Attacking Pretzel Incident here).
She's also fairly liberal on some issues, which is more a result of her education than her cultural upbringing. But, being a good Texan wife, is unlikely to make any large policy announcements on her own.
Also, you definitely gotta think on your toes with the likes of those two spawns of affluence, devils-in-making daughters of his (being antithetical to her own nature).
It sounds weird, but her personality reminds me a lot of Charlie in Willy Wonka, surrounded with the personality-likes of all those other children, struggeling to keep her wits and morals.
