The un-leader

George Bush's priorities seem to be tragically skewed, and his response to today's economic uncertainty (to put it mildly) is a pretty good indication of how.

The obvious priority is his tax cut. His "economic forum" was, apparently, no such thing. ("The idea was to convince voters of Bush's heartfelt economic concerns, but mainly the president just heard his own ideas bounced back to him," was the Washington Post's analysis.) And Bush's statements were unsettling:

Thomas Friedman, Wed. Aug. 21 "Bush's Mideast Sand Trap" :
Bush: "I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch this drive."
