Stop that metaphor!

When his contract with CBS lapsed recently, NBC wanted to hire David Letterman back, the New York Times tells us: not for late night, but for prime time — weekdays at 8 p.m.

It was Jeff Zucker's idea, according to the Times. And it seems that Zucker, president of NBC Entertainment, made quite an impression on the head of Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company, Rob Burnett:

"It was a very smart idea," Mr. Burnett said. "Jeff doesn't just think outside the box; with him you can't even find the box."

As if "thinking outside the box" weren't a meaningless enough expression already.

The phrase does, however, turn out to have an interesting origin.

Comments (and TrackBacks), a former employer, is now officially banko in the U.S. When we adopted the name (after buying a company in anaheim and sadly cleaning its house), you could hear a great big sphincter-cringe and it wadn't pretty. believe you me, outside-the-box talk turned into rich filth. anyway ...

Wow. That really "takes it to a whole other level."
