Rushkoff on writing

Douglas Rushkoff dedicated a recent entry on his website to "Advice to new writers who want to do this thing 'professionally' ":

What matters more — much, much more than figuring out how to make yourself into the writer that the 'market' wants to promote, is figuring out what kind of writer you want to be. ...

It's striking how the entry's candid and personable style, on an unassuming, personal website, transforms what, in more formal media, would be unsatisfying and abrupt into an effective and even inspirational (especially judging from his readers' comments) piece.
