Pragmatic parenting
Tiny is 14. He has, the New York Times Magazine reports, a gun.
Once, Tiny claims, [his mother] found his gun. "She asked me, 'Hey, whose is this?' and I said: 'It's mine. I need it to defend myself.' " She put the gun in a closet. "You know you can't play with that," he remembers her saying. He claims that was the end of the discussion. When asked about the incident, she is awkwardly silent. After a long pause, Tiny's grandmother, who is sitting beside her daughter, says, "I don't like it that he brings weapons here."
Tiny is a paid assassin. He murdered his first victim at age 12. His mother, I suppose, has to pick her battles.
