Globalization for Islam, too
I'd meant to make a note of this piece, from the New York Times of a week ago, on hopes for improved trade relations between the United States and Islamic countries.
The only hope for long-term stability is in the possibility that economic prosperity in the Middle East will remove the conditions that have fostered terrorist activities. And the best opportunity for economic prosperity anywhere is in the ability to trade with the rest of the world, particularly with the richer nations in Europe and America.
Free (or freer) trade is by no means sufficient to improve the standard of living in the Middle East. But any country that is locked out of the global economy has scant chance of prospering.
